Mychal Kendricks Indicted on Insider Trading; Detective's Offensive Letter; Hit-and-run Arrest

Former Philadelphia Eagles and current Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks and ex-investment banker Damilare Sonoiki have been indicted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for insider trading. It was announced on Wednesday, 8/29, that Kendricks had used trading tips from Sonoiki to make about $1.2 million in illegal profits on four different trading deals. In exchange, Sonoiki received $10,000 in kickbacks and perks like Philadelphia Eagles tickets and VIP treatment at events. Kendricks released a statement today (see below) saying in part, "While I didn't fully understand all of the details of the illegal trades, I knew it was wrong, and I wholeheartedly regret my actions." If convicted, they face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $5.25 million as well as restitution. Kendricks signed with the Browns as a free agent in June after winning the Super Bowl last season with the Eagles. Coincidentally, Kendricks made headlines last night after speaking critically of former Philadelphia teammates on the HBO show "Hard Knocks."

A Philadelphia homicide detective is under internal investigation after writing an offensive letter to a colleague who left food in a shared office wastebasket. The letter in question was typed and placed on top of the trashcan. (see letter below) It was addressed "Greetings fellow coworker" and that is about as cordial as it gets, devolving into "filthy savage," "grotesque, primal animal," "upright animal," and "deplorable thing." The detective also diminishes the coworker's education, parents, and upbringing. The writer's complaint is the smell of beef rib bones leftover from the coworker's dinner discarded in the trash can. Commissioner Richard Ross says the detective has been removed from street duty while the investigation continues. He is a 22-year-veteran.

An arrest has been made in the hit-and-run death of a 70-year-old man killed outside of an ice cream shop in Bucks County last week. Anthony Woods is charged with third-degree murder, homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, and failing to render aid. It happened on August 21 around 9 p.m. on the 8800 block of New Falls Road in Levittown. 70-year-old Emmanuel Weintraub had just gotten ice cream at JoJo's Ice Cream & Water Ice and was walking back across the street in the crosswalk to his car with his cane when he was struck. Woods admitted to police that he hit Weintraub and that he had just been to Philadelphia to buy and shoot up heroin. Police found Woods' car with damage to the windshield.
