According to the Los Angeles Times, "Soul Train" creator and host Don Cornelius was found dead at his Sherman Oaks, CA home early Wednesday morning.

He apparently died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. There was no sign of foul play when authorities arrived at his home at 4 a.m., but the Los Angeles Police Department is still investigating the incident. There has been no official determination of what happened, the investigation is still ongoing.

"Soul Train" ran from 1971 - 2006, bringing urban culture and R&B music into the homes of millions. The dance show was a staple in the lives of many in the African American community and launched many artists' music careers, fashion styles, and dance trends. Cornelius stopped hosting in 1993, but remained the creative force behind the show. A movie about "Soul Train" has been talked about being in the works recently.

Don Cornelius was 75.
