Vice President Mike Pence was in Philadelphia this evening to speak at a private event held at the Rittenhouse Hotel benefiting the Republican Governor's Association. Hundreds of protestors gathered outside the hotel and across the street in Rittenhouse Square. They were demonstrating their opposition to President Trump's recent "zero tolerance" policy that is resulting in large numbers of children being separated from their parents after the family illegally crosses the southern border. Demonstrators placed about 50 children's shoes on the ground in the form of the word "No." At one point, a Secret Service agent's vehicle was surrounded by protestors. The lights were flashing and sirens were on as he tried to slowly leave, but people sat on the ground in front. Philadelphia Police helped escort him out of the vehicle. One protestor jumped on the back of the car and was detained and written a citation. There were no arrests.

A Chester County woman has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run that happened in Norristown last month. 21-year-old Alexa Laffkas of Uwchlan Township is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death or Injury. It happened around 4 a.m. on May 27th. 64-year-old Clinton Rucker was crossing Markley Street at Main Street when he was hit by Laffkas. Rucker was crossing against the light. Police say that Laffkas was driving a Jeep and entered the intersection when it was yellow. She was driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. She did not stop to help and instead continued to a friend's apartment across the river in Bridgeport. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele in a statement, "If this defendant had stopped, attempted to help the victim and called police, she likely would not be facing this severe of a charge or state prison time. Drivers need to do the right and responsible thing." She was arraigned on Tuesday and released on her own recognizance. Laffkas has a preliminary hearing on June 28th.

Upper Darby Police are looking for two suspects following a shooting and robbery at a Chinese restaurant over the weekend that left two injured. They have released video surveillance footage of the incident. It happened around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Good Luck Chinese Restaurant at 790 Garrett Road. The first suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Oscar Seth-Murray of North Philadelphia. He first grabs a man, 23-year-old Jibril Richardson, waiting for food and tries to rob him. He then pulls him towards the door and shoots him in the neck. A 16-year-old bystander got hit by the same bullet. 26-year-old Timothy Dwayne Price, Jr then runs to the door and fires two shots at the fleeing Seth-Murray. Police are looking for both Seth-Murray and Price, Jr. The 16-year-old was treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and released. Richardson, however, remains hospitalized in critical condition and is now paralyzed.
