Rescue crews were able to locate and recover the body of a man trapped underground following an explosion at a Bensalem gas station on Tuesday, 6/12. It happened at Liberty Gas on the 1200 block of Bristol Pike around 4:50 p.m. Co-owner Joseph Vigilante and worker, 63-year-old Frank Tomasiello, were cleaning the vault that encases the 8,000 fuel tank by removing water when there was an explosion. Vigilante was underground inside the vault at the time and died. Tomasiello was outside at the top of the ladder and suffered burns to 45-percent of his body. He was taken to Jefferson Burn Unit in critical but stable condition. Recovery crews had to work slowly and methodically due to unstable debris and fumes. They located Vigilante's body on Wednesday afternoon and recovered it by the evening. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Two men are dead after a small plane crashed in a wooded area in Burlington County, New Jersey, on Wednesday morning, 6/13. It happened near the 1100 block of Smithville Jacksonville Road in Springfield Township around 9 a.m. The the twin-engine, six-seat Hawker Beechcraft 58 Baron plane had just taken off from South Jersey Regional Airport in Lumberton about 10 miles away. The plane was headed to Hyannis, Massachusetts. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

UPDATE: The victims are identified as 69-year-old Robert Winner of Marlton, the pilot, and 71-year-old Timothy Scannevin of Southampton, the co-pilot. They were on an Angel Flight mission to Cape Cod. They were flying to pick up someone who needed medical treatment in Philadelphia.

A former Penn State fraternity brother is the first to enter a guilty plea in the death of a pledge who died after a night of heavy drinking and hazing. 21-year-old Ryan Burke pled guilty to all nine counts against him. Those counts include four counts of hazing, four counts of unlawful acts relative to alcohol, and one count of purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor and malt or brewed beverages. Burke was accused of handing a bottle of vodka to the visibly intoxicated pledge. In February 2017, 19-year-old Timothy Piazza, a pledge at Beta Theta Pi, died following a night of heavy drinking and hazing. Piazza suffered a number of falls while intoxicated and members of the fraternity did little to help him or seek proper medical treatment in time. Twenty-five other members of the fraternity are charged. Burke's defense attorney Philip Masorti says his client is "anxious to make amends." He will be sentenced on July 31st.
