Brewerytown Shooting, 1 Injured; Ex-Cop Charged With Assault; Allentown Mayor Found Guilty

Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a shooting occurred in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia that sent a man to the hospital. The shooting took place at the intersection of North 29th and Jefferson Streets at around 4 am on Thursday. Police say that the 50-year-old victim was found with gunshot wounds to the leg and lower back, he was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Police are continuing to search for the suspect or suspects responsible.

A Philadelphia Police officer has been charged with assault after he was caught on video slamming a handcuffed man into the side of a pool. James Yeager was arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident. A video had been uploaded on social media back in July of Yeager grabbing the handcuffed victim and slamming him to the ground. It then shows Yeager pick the man back up and slamming his head into the side of an above ground pool that had been set up in the street. Yeager was later fired in August. The Fraternal Order of Police say that the video did not show the whole story and that they hope Yeager is exonerated.

The corruption trial for the mayor of Allentown ended on Thursday with the mayor being found guilty. Mayor Ed Pawlowski has been convicted of 47 out of the 54 charges that he faced. Prosecutors say that Pawlowski ran a scheme to rig the city contracts for legal, engineering, technology and construction work, all to raise money for his statewide political campaign. The convicted charges include conspiracy, bribery, fraud, attempted extortion and lying to the FBI. A co-defendant, lawyer Scott Allison, was also convicted in the case for bribing Pawlowski for legal work for his firm. Pawlowski is currently free on bail, but when sentencing comes he may face up to 20 years in prison on each count.
