A U.S. Marshal was shot and killed and two police officers were injured while serving an arrest warrant in Harrisburg, PA on Thursday morning. It happened around 6:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Mulberry Street in a residential area of the state capital. The task force had entered the home and handcuffed the arrest suspect Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce when a man on the second floor opened fire on the officers. Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill and two other local officers were hit by the gun fire. The officers returned fire and critically injured the shooter. 45-year-old Hill died a short time later at the hospital. He was an 11-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals and an Army Veteran. He is survived by a wife and two children.

UPDATE: The shooter has been identified as 31-year-old Kevin Sturgis of Philadelphia. Sturgis had two active warrants from Philadelphia. Failure to appear for a firearms charge and one for not appearing for a probation hearing on a receiving stolen property, possession of controlled substance and unauthorized use of an automobile charges.
