Phila. School Board Applications Wanted; Eagles Ticket Tips; Penn. Congressional Map Ruling

The Philadelphia School District has begun accepting applications for the new city-controlled school board. Officials have stated that candidates are preferred to be parents of a Philadelphia public or charter school child, or have gone to a Philadelphia public or charter school themselves. The Board of Education will govern over all public, district, and charter schools. They will also oversee policy and financial decisions for the school district. The new board will take over in July once the SRC has been dissolved.

As the Eagles are set to play on Saturday against the Falcons in the NFC divisional round playoff, ticket vendors are offering a warning about scalpers selling fake tickets. Sites like Stubhub and Ticketmaster say that if you are buying physical tickets, make sure that it is from a legitimate source, or from a site that has a guarantee and a customer service number. Also to never buy your ticket outside of the stadium or with cash, always use a credit or debit card so the transaction can be tracked. Officials say that if you buy your ticket, never share the actual ticket to social media because the barcode can be copied.

A federal judicial panel ruled that Pennsylvania can keep its congressional district map. The ruling comes about after a group of Democratic voters contended that it should be thrown out because the state lawmakers who created it in 2011 gerrymandered it to help Republicans. In the 2-1 ruling, the judges found that the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the idea that district maps should be blind to party considerations.
