Woman Found Dead In Van; Grand Jury On State Trooper Shootings; Cosby Court Update

Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a woman was found dead inside of a minivan at a strip mall in Northeast Philadelphia. The van was found with a cloth outside the window, which usually indicates an abandoned car. Upon further investigation, a body was found inside. The body was found by two pedestrians on their way to work. The 53-year-old victim may have been living in the van, she was found frozen, but officials are unsure if the extreme cold was the cause of death. Investigators are now running an autopsy and a toxicology test.

A grand jury has now stated that the Pennsylvania State Police should cease internally investigating shootings by its own troopers, to ensure an unbiased and transparent investigation. The grand jury also urged Gov. Tom Wolf to force the state police to stop internally investigating a trooper shooting, especially with the national spotlight on police shooting investigations. State police will review the grand jury's report and will "respond as appropriate." Gov. Wolf's office has made no immediate comment.

A federal appeals court has stated they will not rehear a defamation lawsuit filed against Bill Cosby by a woman who says he raped her decades ago. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied Katherine McKee's request for a full-court hearing. A 3-judge panel had already ruled against her in October. McKee stated that Cosby defamed her in a letter written by his lawyer that was sent to the New York Daily News, which demanded a retraction of McKee's allegations. Cosby's lawyer says the letter was protected by the 1st amendment. McKee was one of many women who came forward against the comedian. A separate defamation lawsuit is now pending in Massachusetts, where Cosby owns a home.
