Phoenixville Police are searching for a group of suspects wanted in the shooting death of a teenager outside of a Dunkin' Donuts on Wednesday night in an apparent drug deal gone bad. Officials have identified 15-year-old Jayson Ortiz-Cameron as the shooting victim. He was shot and killed after 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dunkin' Donuts on the 200 block of Nutt Road near Gay Street. He was a freshman at Phoenixville Area High School. Investigators say that Ortiz-Cameron and other people planned to commit a robbery during a marijuana deal. They were in contact with another group of 3-4 people who were seen on surveillance arriving at the store in a dark sedan. The two groups made contact in the parking lot and began conversation that led to a confrontation. The argument continued to escalate until one of the passengers in the car pulled a gun and shot Ortiz-Cameron. The car then fled. Anybody with information is asked to contact Chester County Detective Joe Walton at 610-344-6866 or Phoenixville Detective Pat Mark at 610-933-1180.

Is is too cold for the Mummer's? The City of Philadelphia says no. They will continue to prepare to ring in the New Year down Broad Street despite the sub-freezing temperatures outside. The parade starts at 9 a.m. at City Hall and heads south on Broad to Washington. The low temperature for New Year's Day is 8 degrees and the high will only be about 20, with wind chills much colder. Some of the Mummers themselves are having different thoughts. Temperatures this cold will certainly affect the instruments including horns and strings like banjos. An official vote on the weather won't happen until Saturday at noon. Until then, it's a go and everyone will keep practicing and preparing for Monday.

UPDATE: The Philadelphia Mummers Parade 2018 WILL be held on Monday, Jan 1st, despite extreme cold temperatures. The vote was held Saturday around 1:30 p.m. between the city and mummer division heads. It was 3-2 in favor.

A suspect shot by a plainclothes Philadelphia police officer in the Germantown neighborhood last night died from his injuries Thursday morning. 25-year-old Dennis Plowden was pronounced dead at 7:18 a.m. at Albert Einstein Medical Center. It happened Wednesday night around 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of Nedro and Opal streets. Two plainclothes officers spotted a vehicle that matched the plates and description of car connected to a homicide on December 21st. They attempted to pull the car over at 16th and Nedro. As the officers approached the vehicle, Plowden allegedly ran over one officer as he pulled away. Plowden drove off but crashed into two parked cars. The second officer caught up to him followed by uniformed back up. Plowden exited his vehicle with his hand in his pocket. Police say the plainclothes officer gave repeated commands for him to show his hands, but he did not comply. That is when the officer shot him in the head. Investigators have determined that Plowden was not armed. They also say that the car is connected to that December 21st case but the suspect is not.
