Carson Wentz Out for Season ACL Tear; 4 Nuns Injured in Crash; Bomb Attack in New York City

Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson announced at a press conference today that starting QB Carson Wentz has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season. The knee injury was confirmed after a MRI this morning. Wentz suffered the injury in the third quarter of yesterday's game. He dove into the end zone and was hit by several Los Angeles Rams players. The play was called back due to a penalty of Eagles lineman Lane Johnson. Wentz stayed in the game and threw for a touchdown a few plays later. Back up quarterback Nick Foles took over the rest of the game and secured the victory and the NFC East division title. Pederson reminded the media that the team has lost several key players this year (Darren Sproles, Jason Peters) and the rest of the team has stepped up. Foles is no stranger to the backup role in Philadelphia. In 2013, he took over for an injured Michael Vick and put up Pro Bowl numbers the rest of the season on the way to the playoffs. Wentz was a NFL MVP candidate and already set the franchise record for TDs in a season with 33.

According to Bethel Township Police, five people were injured, including 4 nuns and a man, in a car crash in Delaware County on Sunday night. It happened around 7 p.m. on Conchester Highway near the Foulk Road overpass in Garnet Valley. All five were taken to the hospital. No word on their conditions. Two of the first responders arrived at the scene dressed as Santa. The cause of the crash in under investigation.

A man, now identified as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, set off a crude, "low-tech" pipe bomb that was strapped to his chest in an attempted suicide attack this morning in New York City. It happened at 7:20 a.m. in a crowded underground passageway that connects the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Times Square subway. The bomb injured Ullah and three others. They are expected to be ok. "This was an attempted terrorist attack," Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters. "Thank God the perpetrator did not achieve his ultimate goals." Ullah came to the United States seven years ago from Bangladesh on a visa. He has an address in Brooklyn. He told investigators that he was inspired by ISIS propaganda on the internet.
