Hit-And-Run Truck Found; Worker Falls 4 Floors; Philly Cab Hailing App; Billy Penn on Comcast Center

Lower Southampton Police say they have found a truck wanted in a deadly hit-and-run accident on Monday night in Trevose. The accident happened along Street Road near Philmont Ave. The driver fatally struck 18-year-old Jess Kurtz and injured another 18-year-old man as they walked along the road. The man told police that the driver briefly stopped and helped move Kurtz from the roadway, but then got back in the truck and fled. Police has a person of interest in mind and are in the process of locating them. So far, there have been no charges or arrests.

A construction worker died after falling 4 stories in Old City on Thursday afternoon. It happened before 2 p.m. on the unit block of N. Third Street. The 28-year-old man was taken to Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour after arrival. His identity has not been released. The circumstances surrounding the fall are also unavailable.

One local cab company has launched their own app trying to compete with the ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft. 215 Get A Cab has published an app for Apple and Android called 215GetACab. It works just like the popular ride hailing services, but instead of finding the closest private car, the app will hail the closest cab to your location. You can also use the app to book cabs in advance. Since the taxi rates are set by the Philadelphia Parking Authority there will never be surge pricing. The app, however, only represents one taxi company in the city. Buyer beware, 215 Get A Cab has 2 out of 5 stars on yelp with 47 reviews.

Ironworkers placed the final steel beams and topped off the new Comcast Technology Center on Monday. The workers insisted on moving the building schedule up to protect the 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles from the "Curse of Billy Penn." As the crews finished the 1,121 foot high tower, they affixed an American flag, Christmas tree, and a miniature statute of William Penn. The new Comcast building surpassed the first one back in October. When that Comcast Center was built in 2007, a similar small Penn statue was also put at the top. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008, breaking a 25-year professional championship drought. Before 1987, a gentleman's agreement had kept William Penn on City Hall the tallest structure in the city. When that ceiling was broken by Liberty One, our teams were “cursed.”
