Pharmacist Tries to Kill Mother w/ Insulin; 91yo Hit By UPS Truck; Arrests At City Council Meeting

A Pennsylvania pharmacist is under arrest after she attempted to kill her chronically ill mother by repeatedly injecting her with insulin. 54-year-old Donna Horger is charged with attempted murder and related offenses. Back in August, staff at Immaculate Mary Nursing Home in Philadelphia found her 74-year-old mother, Mary, unresponsive. She was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital. They found she had low blood sugar. Three days later it happened again and again nine days after that. Tests showed that insulin shots were the cause. Mary did not have diabetes and did not take shots. Horger confessed to administering the shots. Defense attorney Fortunato Perry Jr. says that Horger loves her mother and was trying to place "her mother at peace and end her suffering." She is out on bond with a preliminary hearing on September 20th.

A 91-year-old woman was struck by a UPS truck in Center City this afternoon. It happened around 12:40 p.m. on the 800 block of Walnut Street. The delivery truck was traveling westbound when it hit the woman. She was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. No word on her condition. The driver is cooperating with police.

Several protestors were arrested this afternoon after disrupting City Council during the public testimony segment. The protestors were from the group Black Is Back and raised issues of policing and police involved shootings. The testimony began civilly enough but escalated to a disruptive level. Five people were arrested for disorderly conduct. The group began the day by protesting outside City Hall in front of the statue of former mayor Frank Rizzo.

Weather
Tonight, Mostly Cloudy, temperatures in the mid to low 70's this evening in Center City
