One New Jersey shore town is taking steps to address overcrowding by considering banning tents on the beach. Council members in Belmar have proposed a resolution that would ban tents and large canopies from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The practice is known as 'beach spreading' where groups of people and families stake out and take up larger plots of sand real estate using tents better suited for a tailgate. Mayor Matt Doherty says he has received complaints from the Department of Public Works, police officers, badge checkers and lifeguards, as well as patrons. The ban wouldn't include small tents for children or beach umbrellas. Other towns such as Seaside Heights, Avon-by-the-Sea and Long Beach Island all have similar restrictions. The council plans to discuss the resolution at their next meeting on September 5th. If it passes it will go into effect next season.

A agreement has been reached between Sunoco, state officials, and environmental groups that will allow horizontal drilling on the Mariner East 2 pipeline to continue. The 350 mile natural liquid gas pipeline runs from Ohio through West Virginia and across Pennsylvania to their export facility in Marcus Hook, PA. Sunoco has agreed to re-evaluate dozens of high risk drilling sites and post the re-evaluations online. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will also approve those drilling plans. Sunoco will send drilling plans to homeowners with private water wells nearby and offer water testing.

"We are pleased to have reached an agreement that will allow us to proceed with horizontal directional drilling on the Mariner East 2 pipeline in a manner that demonstrates our commitment to the Commonwealth and our neighbors to protect Pennsylvania's natural resources during construction. We will continue to adhere to the strict conditions of our permits, including the enhanced standards for planning, outreach and reporting.  The agreement will put hundreds of workers back on the job as we complete this transformational infrastructure project," the company said.

The body of a man was discovered after a house fire in Kensington earlier this week. 28-year-old Gary Schmeltzer of Bensalem was found by firefighters on the second floor of a home on the 1800 block of E. Clementine Street. The fire broke out late Monday night. One person survived by jumping out a second floor window. The were taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition. Police are investigating the cause of the fire and Schmeltzer's death. Neighbors say the house was vacant and used by squatters.
