A Philadelphia Police Officer is now recovering after being attacked while trying to break up a high school fight on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at 15th and Chestnut Street at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday. The police officer who was on a bike, noticed a fight going on between high school students and tried to break it up. He was then sucker punched from behind by a student during the process. The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated and is now recovering. Police say that many students receive SEPTA fares from the school and some of them use it to come to Center City and cause problems. Police are now working to get those fares revoked if the student gets into trouble with the law.

Philadelphia's City Council has now approved a bill that will make it a hate crime to vandalize any gravesite in the Philadelphia area. The bill comes in light after many cemetery vandalisms have taken place over the past couple months in Philadelphia. The Mt. Caramel Jewish Cemetery was heavy vandalized in February. Officials hope that this will deter anymore vandalism from happening in the area. Officials are still offering a $74,000 reward to anyone that gives information that leads to an arrest for the vandalism of Mt. Caramel.

The Pennsylvania House passed a bill on Wednesday night that would make gambling more widely available in Pennsylvania. The house unveiled a bill that would make it legal for any establishment with a liquor license to put in casino style gambling machines. Places like bars, bowling alleys, truck stops, VFW Halls, could all be able to put in slot machine type games where customers could gamble. The bill was passed through the house at 102-89 and was a last effort by Republicans to raise hundreds of millions in tax dollars to help raise the worn-out state treasury.
