The San Francisco 49ers announced on Sunday night that they are firing head coach (and former Eagles head coach) Chip Kelly. Along with Chip Kelly they are firing the 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. The 49ers went 2-14 this year, having the second worst record in all of the NFL, just above the Cleveland Browns, who finshed at 0-15. CEO Jed York commented about firing Kelly and Baalke saying, "Despite my feelings for Trent and Chip, I felt the decision to change our football leadership was absolutely necessary. The performance of this team has not lived up to my expectations or those of our fans, and that is truly disappointing. We all expected to see this team progress and develop as the season went on, but unfortunately that did not happen. That is why now is the time to find a new direction for this team." This is the second consecutive season where the 49ers fired a coach just after one season with the team.

No. 5 Penn State will face No. 9 USC in the Rose Bowl today in Pasadena, California. Today's game will be a test for both teams as the winner of the Rose Bowl will move on as a favorite to be in the 2017 College Football Playoffs. Penn State was close to making it on their own to the playoffs this season after winning nine straight games, including against Wisconsin for the Big Ten Title. Penn State is also looking at sealing their season in the Top 5 rank in the Big 10 for the first time since their 2005 season. As Penn State's defense looks to go up against USC freshman QB Sam Darnold, they have a defensive line with 18 ready players who have produced 39 sacks this season, and has held a tight line all season. The Nittany Lions will go head to head with USC today at 5 pm (on ESPN).

The Eagles were able to end their season on a high note this year with a 17-13 victory over the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles got a big help from tight end Zach Ertz who had an astonishing 13 passes caught during the game and rushed 139 yards, which led to two touchdowns for the Eagles. Carson Wentz had a decent game completing 27 of his 43 passes for 245 yards, and two touchdown passes, which were both thrown to Ertz. Mark Sanchez was at the helm of Dallas's offense for much of Sunday. He only managed to get a field goal in the second half. The Eagles were able to score 17 points in the second half, 10 of them in the fourth quarter. Eagles OT Lane Johnson stated "It's nice to end the season this way, despite that people said this was a meaningless game without a lot at stake, for our team to go out to play as hard as we did and put a blemish on Dallas' record, it's a great way to end a season. The pieces are here to win. I really believe that." The Eagles ended the season with a record of 6-9.
