A 15-year-old boy from Pennsylvania has been charged with homicide in a shooting that took place on New Years Eve that killed another 15-year-old boy. The shooting took place at a home in Greencastle in Franklin County just before 10 pm on Saturday. Police say that one of the boys showed the other boy a handgun and pointed it towards him. The gun then went off and the victim was shot in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Officials stated that the boy is being charged as an adult.

The Philadelphia soda tax has now been put into effect. The soda tax will now add a penny and a half per-ounce charge on all sodas, diet sodas, juices and other sweetened beverages for distributors. The city says a distributor is any person who sells sweetened beverage to a dealer. The tax will add 18 cents to a 12 ounce soda, and $1.44 on a six pack of 16 ounce sodas. The money from the new tax will go to help pay for Mayor Kenney's universal Pre-K plan, as well as going towards community schools, recreation centers, parks, and the city's library system.

Police are now investigating after a 71-year-old man was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver on Sunday morning. The incident happened just before 2 a.m. at Marvine Street and Chew Avenue in the Olney section of Philadelphia. Police say that the man was walking across Chew Avenue when a speeding car going eastbound struck him. The suspect in the car continued to drive two blocks after hitting the man until he crashed into a fence. He was taken to the hospital with a broken leg. Police say the man was either thrown or dragged down the street. Police are testing the driver to see if he was drunk during the crash.
