The reigning National College Basketball Champs Villanova University have now been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press's Top 25 men's college basketball teams. Villanova (who are currently 8-0) moved up to the No. 1 spot last week with 57 first-place votes from a panel of 65 national media professionals. This marks the second time in school history that the men's team has ranked No. 1 nationally. The Wildcats were No. 1 for three weeks in February last season. Villanova took the No. 1 spot from the University of Kentucky, who dropped to No. 6 after losing to UCLA this past Saturday.

Temple University's Football coach, Matt Rhule, who has had back to back 10-win seasons as well as an American Athletic Conference Championship this year, will now be leaving the Owls and heading to coach at Baylor. Rhule will be replacing Baylor's former coach, Art Briles, who was fired this past May, after being involved in the school's sexual assault scandal. Rhule took over the helms at Temple back in 2013, when Temple was ranked one of the worst programs in the FBS. In his first season the Owls went 2-10. In his second season they improved, moving up to 6-6. They finished his third season 10-4 record. This past season the Owls went 10-3 and defeated No. 19 Navy this past Saturday in the AAC Championship game. Longtime assistant coach Ed Foley will be the interim head coach for Temple at the Military Bowl against Wake Forest on Dec. 27.

Contract negotiators have now stated that reliever Joaquin Benoit and the Phillies have now reached an agreement on a 1-year contract. Benoit will join the Phillies this season for a 1-year $7.5 million contract. Benoit, who is a 39-year-old right handed pitcher, had an ERA under 3.00 for six of the past seven years. He went 3-1 last season with an ERA of 2.86. Benoit was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Toronto Blue Jays last year on July 26th for reliever Drew Storen.
