Explosion at Cape Canaveral (Video); Wet Labor Day Weekend Expected; Clinton Lead in PA Shrinks

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket apparently exploded on its Florida launch pad today during a dress rehearsal for a satellite launch, which had been scheduled for this weekend. Thick black smoke and flames could be seen billowing from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Social media users in the area reported hearing and feeling several consecutive blasts from the direction of the pad.

It looks like a wet and windy finale for the unofficial end of summer. Tropical Storm Hermine's track changed overnight, and now heavy rain and gusty winds are possible over the long Labor Day weekend here and at the Jersey Shore. A tropical storm warning was issued early Thursday for a section of the U.S. East Coast as Hermine approaches Florida from the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Hermine was expected to become a hurricane by the time it makes landfall on Florida's coast Thursday night or early Friday.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's post-convention bounce has deflated a bit among registered voters in Pennsylvania, according to a new Franklin and Marshall College poll. Clinton leads Republican nominee Donald Trump by 7 percentage points, 47 percent to 40 percent, among likely voters, the poll released Thursday showed. Her lead is smaller, 43 percent to 39 percent, among registered voters. The poll of 736 registered voters, conducted from Aug. 25 to 29, has a sample error of 4.6 percent.
