Deadly NJ Transit Bus Crash; Swimmers Robbery Story Falsified; DNC Delegate Sexual Assault Claim

Firefighters had to rescue passengers aboard two NJ Transit buses that collided in Newark, New Jersey this morning. One person has died, seven others have been injured. One of the busses t-boned the other, killing one of the bus drivers as one bus ended up on its side.

Two American Olympic swimmers headed home today after being pulled off a plane yesterday to testify about an alleged robbery at the Rio Olympics that Brazilian police said was made up. A third U.S. swimmer said he would make a $10,800 payment and leave Brazil later today. US Swimmer Ryan Lochte and three others claim they were robbed at gunpoint. However, video shows the swimmers vandalizing a gas station bathroom at the time of the alleged stickup. The scandal gives the US a black eye after American athletes dominated the medal count at the Olympics. The drama surrounding the alleged robbery of American swimmers - and their ever-changing descriptions of it - has shocked and deeply angered Brazilians, who said it cast a false negative shadow on their city and their Olympics at a time the country is eager to prove it can host the games safely. The story has also dominated Olympic headlines, overshadowing the worthy accomplishments of athletes who trained for years just to get to Rio and set records during their performances. The saga was an enormous embarrassment for the U.S. Olympic team, which has dominated in the medal count.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is investigating a claim by a Democratic National Convention delegate that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow delegate last month. The complaint was brought by Gwen Snyder, a Pennsylvania delegate for Sen. Bernie Sanders. Snyder said the delegate was visibly drunk, and told her that she looked like she needed a hug. When she reluctantly agreed, the man pulled her into a bear hug, Snyder said, and buried his head in her chest, licking her breasts. The allegation has drawn national attention after the reported victim contended that Philadelphia authorities had been dismissive of her claim.
