Two Arrested in Wawa Brawl Video; SS United States Plan Scrapped; Montco Gymnastics Coach Arrested

Two people have been arrested in connection to a brawl caught on video last week in a Wawa in Northeast Philadelphia. 43-year-old Barbara Bayona and 20-year-old Jonathan Rodriguez, both of Ditman Street in Tacony, have been charged with riot, criminal mischief, simple assault and other offenses. It happened on Friday night July 29th at the Wawa located on the 6400 block of Torresdale Avenue and Levick Street. The video showed a group of people inside the store. Several were shouting at an employee, they eventually started throwing food, and attacked another customer. Wawa said they caused $700 in damage.

After an extensive six month evaluation, Los Angeles based Crystal Cruises has decided to scrap plans for a $700 million restoration of the SS United States. They decided that despite being structurally sound, it would not be technically or commercially feasible to return the ocean liner to the high seas without significantly changing it's historic design. The ship moored in South Philadelphia for the past two decades is larger than the Titantic and holds the record for fastest trans-Atlantic crossing. The SS United States Conservancy hopes it can become part of mixed-use waterfront development and museum. Crystal Cruises donated $350,000 to the conservancy.

A Montgomery County man has been arrested for the sexual assault of a young girl. 33-year-old Daniel Erb of Hatboro is charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and other offenses. He is accused of molesting the girl multiple times over a period of 3 years between her ages 8 and 11. Though not connected in the case, Erb is a gymnastics instructor. He is being held on a half million dollars bail. If you have any information or may know of another victim contact Upper Moreland Police at 1-215-657-4700.
