Boy Catches 7 Foot Shark on LBI Beach; Clinton Speaks at Temple; SEPTA Fare Changes

A seven foot shark was beached by a 13 year old fisherman at the Jersey shore this week. Joseph Mandile and his son Gianni Mandile, 13, were surf fishing on Long Beach Island, New Jersey when the Gianni hooked what he first thought was a stingray. It turned out to be a 200 lb. sand tiger shark. According to National Geographic, sand tiger sharks are not very aggressive toward people. The Mandiles did not keep the shark. They released it back into the Atlantic Ocean. Researchers says this summer could be a banner one for shark sightings along the East Coast, but it's too early to say yet.

Hilary Clinton began her campaign as the Democratic nominee today with a rally on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. She was at Temple University accompanied by running mate Tim Kaine and their spouses. They spoke about economic opportunity, diversity and national security, themes reinforced at the Democratic National Convention by a variety of speakers in Philadelphia.

Starting August 1st , SEPTA Regional Rail lines will no longer collect fares on board at Center City Regional Rail Stations between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. All fares will instead be collected or validated before customers go to the platform area at Temple, Jefferson, Suburban, 30th Street, and University City Regional Rail stations. Fare Collection personnel will be stationed by each stairway. Once the fare has been validated or collected, customers will be able to proceed directly to the train platform and all stairways will be open. Customers with cash must purchase a ticket at the Station Ticket Office before going to the stairway fare line.
