DNC Opens Without Debbie Wasserman Shultz; SEPTA Shuts Down BSL; DNC Day 1 Speakers

The Democratic National Convention opened this afternoon without embattled Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz at the podium. Instead, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake gaveled open the 4-day convention (she actually almost forgot to hit the gavel). Wasserman Shultz has come under fire after e-mails were leaked on Friday that show a Democratic National Committee bias for Hillary Clinton during the primary process. The Florida congresswoman announced yesterday that she would resign after the convention but still planned to open and close the proceedings. This morning she was booed heavily while addressing the Florida delegation and pulled out of taking the stage.

SEPTA shutdown southbound service on the Broad Street Line between Oregon Ave and AT&T Station due to street level crowding at Broad Street and Pattison Ave. The Secret Service made the decision to close AT&T Station due to security concerns outside the DNC. The BSL will stop at Oregon Ave instead of continuing to the Stadium Complex until further notice. There is no time table on when service will resume. You can stay updated at septa.org

The Democratic National Convention opens today at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Today's theme is 'United Together'. Tonight's headlining speakers include First Lady Michelle Obama, Senator Bernie Sanders, DREAMer Astrid Silva.
