Bucks County Couple Faces Child Abuse Charges; Fairmount Park Body; Second Drowning on LBI

A Bucks County couple is expected in court, Tuesday morning, on charges of abusing their two-month-old twin daughters. The parents are Melissa Shales, 25, and her husband Michael, 30. They face felony child abuse charges, including aggravated assault, conspiracy and endangering the welfare of children. One of the baby girls had a broken leg that was so bad, doctors said she could've died. Police say doctors found indications of prior fractures on the other infant.

One woman is in custody and a second may be questioned after a woman was found in Fairmount Park face-down, shot, stabbed, and handcuffed. Shavon Armstrong of Wilkes Barre turned herself in at Philadelphia Police Headquarters. She is charged with murder, kidnapping and other offenses. Police say the 39-year-old killed Toy Charda Bryant, 26, of Chester and then left her body on George's Hill Drive. They don’t yet know where Bryant was killed.

A 24-year-old woman is the second person this month to die at Long Beach Island because of strong ocean currents. Kristi Pisano, of Port Jefferson, New York, was hit by a wave and pulled out by the current about 11 a.m. on Saturday. Pisano had been visiting the Jersey Shore to attend a wedding. Pisano's death followed an incident on June 5, when 55-year-old James Clarke died of a heart attack after saving his son and two other boys from a rip current on Long Beach Island.
