Police Search For Overbrook Arsonist, Frm. Police Commisioner Dies, Boy Hit and Killed By Car

Police are now on the search for a suspect who is believed to be an arsonist who has been setting cars on fire at three different auto body shops on Lacaster Avenue in Overbrook. Police say the arsonist has been doing this since October now and want to find him before someone get a hurt. The latest case was at the Major Events Auto Lot on the 5000 block of Lancaster Avenue on Tuesday night. Police say the arsonist has been doing this either very late at night or early in the morning.

Willie Williams, who was Philadelphia's first African American police commissioner died yesterday in Atlanta at the age of 72. after serving 24 years on the force Williams was sworn in as the commissioner in June of 1988. Williams then left in 1992 to head the Low Angeles Police Department. The Philly police department announced they will fly their flags at half mast in honor of Williams.

A boy was hit and killed by a car yesterday afternoon in New Castle County. Police reported that the victim was 14-year-old Tyler Sphan of New Castle County Delaware. The accident happened before 3 p.m. yesterday on Route 13. The boy was trying to cross the highway when he accidentally stepped in front of the car. Sphan was then taken to Christiana Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. So far no charges have been filed against the driver.

The Phillies play the Nationals this afternoon at 4:05 in Washington.
