A number of protests in Center City aimed to disrupt the evening commute. They began as separate missions on North Broad Street before joining forces on their way into Center City. The march began on the campus of Temple University with students, faculty, and neighbors (known as Stadium Stompers) who oppose the school building an on-campus stadium. They were joined by members of Fight for 15 who are seeking higher minimum wages for fast food workers. Finally they were joined by members of Philadelphia Coalition for Racial, Economic, and Legal (REAL) Justice who were hosting a “Day of Rage.” They made their way around City Hall before heading back up Broad Street.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced the arrests of 15 gang members for crimes related to a reign of terror inflicted on a North Philadelphia neighborhood over four months in 2014. Many of the men identify as members of the “TNT” gang for 10th and Thompson streets in North Philadelphia. Between February and June of 2014, gun battles would break out on the streets between rival gangs, showering the blocks with bullets. The arrests are a result of lengthy investigations by several task forces. Those arrested face charges of murder, attempted murder, gun charges, and conspiracy.

An 83-year-old woman has died after being shot inside her home this afternoon in East Germantown. Police were called to the scene on the 400 block E. Cosgrove Street before 1 p.m. They found the woman inside with two gun shot wounds to her chest. She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being investigated. Police did recover a gun at the scene.

Sports
