Bernie Sanders Mural Violation; Child Swallows Cocaine at Daycare; Drugs in Doughnut at High School

A Bernie Sanders mural in Philadelphia generated a violation, but now L&I says it made a mistake. The developer, Max Glass, received a letter Monday from L&I saying the mural, on the southeast corner of 22nd and Catharine Streets, was not properly permitted. Glass, 28, who is part of a pro-Sanders group that created the mural, said he considered the mural artwork. A permit is not required to paint a mural provided that the mural does not contain commercial advertising and the property is not historic. So the mural can stay.

Police are investigating an incident at a West Philadelphia daycare center. Workers at a daycare on the 5200 block of Haverford Ave were making breakfast for kids when they noticed a 3-year-old girl chewing on something. According to police, workers checked on the child and it appeared to be a packet of crack cocaine. Investigators say the child swallowed the drug. The girl was taken to CHOP where she tested positive for cocaine. She remained at CHOP overnight. Authorities do not believe the drugs came from the daycare.

Police say they arrested two people for drug violations after an investigation found that they attempted to smuggle narcotics into the Bordentown Regional High School. Police say 21-year-old Brian Perry walked into the main office with a paper bag and drink claiming to drop off lunch for a senior he identified as 18-year-old Ilker Ceylan. School administrators were suspicious and opened the bag when Perry left. Police say inside was a doughnut with six Xanax pills inside a sandwich bag stuffed in the center hole. Police arrested and charged Perry with possession and intent to distribute. He posted bail. Ceylan was also charged with intent to possess and intent to distribute.
