SJ Man Sentenced 31 Years in Wife's Murder; Man Held For Trial in Officer Ambush

Twenty-nine-year-old Kyle Crosby was sentenced Thursday to 31 years behind bars in the New Year's Eve 2014 killing of his wife Erica Crippen. The Mount Laurel man pled guilty in December to aggravated manslaughter and hindering apprehension in the death of his 26-year-old wife. Crosby choked Crippen to death and hid her body in a rural part of Maryland. Investigators used GPS in his car to located her body. He will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least 85% of his sentence.

The man who ambushed a Philadelphia police officer in January with a hail of bullets while he was sitting in his police cruiser in West Philadelphia was ordered held for trial without bail during a preliminary hearing today. 33-year-old Officer Jesse Hartnett testified on the stand on how 30-year-old Edward Archer suddenly approached his vehicle firing shots. Hartnett was hit 3 times in the arm. He was able to kick open the door, return fire, and chase after the suspect until backup arrived. Archer initially told police that he did it "in the name of Islam" and that he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, but no connections to terrorism have been found. The FBI is still investigating. His defense may explore the possibility of mental illness. Hartnett still has more surgery scheduled to repair his arm. Formal arraignment is scheduled for March 31st.

Partly Cloudy, temperatures in the low 70's/upper 60's this evening in Center City.
