Oscar for Leo, Not for Sly; Mayor Kenney to Gun Violence Meeting; City Truck Sprays Hydraulic Fluid

At the Academy Awards last night, Leonardo DiCaprio took home the Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Revenant. Best Picture went to Spotlight. But the most trophies - six - went to the gloriously crazy Mad Max: Fury Road. The ceremony's host, Chris Rock, called this year's ceremony "the White People's Choice Awards." He also ripped the highly paid African American celebrities who opted to boycott the event. In the evening's biggest disappointment, Sylvester Stallone did NOT win Best Supporting Actor for his aging Rocky Balboa character in Creed.

Mayor Jim Kenney will attend the "We Must Take a Stand" Gun Violence Reduction Meeting in South Philadelphia tonight. The meeting aims to come up with reasonable solutions to address the issue of gun violence in South Philadelphia. The event follows a double shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry neighborhood. Philadelphia Police are investigating the incident after two teens were injured. The Mayor will be joined by the Deputy Mayor for Public Engagement Nina Ahmad and Direction of the Office for Black Male Engagement Jack Drummond.

A South Philadelphia neighborhood got sprayed by a Philadelphia city truck that spewed a sticky, oily mess on homes, cars and the sidewalk. A malfunctioning city sanitation truck sprayed hydraulic fluid into the air and caused the mess back on Thursday, and residents are still waiting for the city to help with clean up.
