Blizzard Watch Issued, Pennsylvania State of Emergency, Snow Storm Preparation/Cancelations

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has declared a state of emergency ahead of the impending winter storm to affect our area this weekend. This will allow state and local officials to respond quickly to deliver any resources and personnel across affected areas. The National Weather Service has now issued a Blizzard Watch for much of the area from Friday evening to Sunday morning. We can expect 12-16 inches of snow in the I-95 corridor along with winds gusting over 40 mph. Coastal areas can also expect flooding, especially at high tides coinciding with the full moon.

UPDATES:A Blizzard Warning will now go into effect from Friday at 7pm to Sunday at 10 am. NWS has upped the snow totals to 18-24". Philadelphia has declared a snow emergency starting at 9pm Friday. All cars must be cleared from snow emergency routes by that time or they will be towed. SEPTA will shutdown most services starting at 4 am Saturday morning including Regional Rail, bus and trolley lines, and the Norristown High Speed Line. The Market Frankford El and the Broad Street line will operate as usual. They will reevaluate restoring service starting for 4 am Sunday.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kinney said the city will decide on when to declare a snow emergency sometime tomorrow. At that time parked cars on emergency routes will have to be moved or they'll be towed. Cars will be able to be moved to PPA Center City garages for a $5 flat fee at that time. Many other local towns and municipalities are declaring snow emergencies starting Friday evening. Check with your township to see if and when you have to move your cars. SEPTA will attempt to keep service running but may have to implement their Winter Storm Service Plan. American Airlines has canceled flights on the east coast starting Friday. Amtrak will be operating on a moderated schedule. Check Amtrak.com/service-alerts-and-notices for service alerts. PECO, PennDOT, DelDOT, and DelDOT are all making proper preparations to make sure the roads stay clear and the power stays on.
