Doug Pederson will be the next head coach of the Eagles. Perderson is a former player and assistant coach for the team. Pederson succeeds Chip Kelly, who was fired and has since been hired as the San Francisco 49ers head coach. Doug Pederson is currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. He has not been officially announced because the Chiefs are still active in the NFL playoffs. Pederson is the 23rd coach in Eagles history and the fourth coach hired during Jeffrey Lurie’s ownership of the team, following Ray Rhodes, Reid and Kelly.

This Sunday, January 17th will be the last day for the Venture Inn, one of Center City's oldest gay-friendly bar/restaurants. The restaurant, on Camac Street just off Spruce, has been a fixture since the 70’s. Owners Bob and Linda Berkowitz are selling the business, including the liquor license and an adjacent property. The prospective buyers' attorney said it was too soon to disclose plans for the property. Manager Henry Brinton said he and all staffers had found new jobs at bars and restaurants nearby. Brinton said he would land at Valanni, around the corner.

Police have charged the Neshaminy High School basketball coach with harassment for knocking down a referee in a game last week. Coach Jerry Devine who head-butted the referee, faces a maximum sentence 90 days in jail and a $300 fine. The referee wasn't injured but the DA called the incident "aggressive physical contact" and "unacceptable." A widely circulated video shows an angry Devine approaching and knocking down the unidentified ref in the final seconds of his team's 49-42 loss to visiting Pennsbury High School after a charging call against a Neshaminy player. He was ejected from the game, and briefly suspended from teaching.
