A pregnant mother and her young child died in a row house fire in Philadelphia. The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Friday on North 4th Street. Authorities say the mother went back into the home in an attempt to save her two-year-old child. The victims were found on the second floor, where the mother was found cradling her child. Family members on scene have identified the mother and son as Elizabeth Perez and Nathaniel Richardson. Perez was eight months pregnant.

Two names being talked about as potential Eagles head coaching candidates are former Eagle quarterback Doug Pederson and former Eagle Offensive coordinator, Jon Gruden. Pederson is currently Andy Reid’s offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs. Gruden is a TV analyst for ESPN. Pedeson can’t be interviewed yet because the Chiefs have a playoff game this week. Gruden seems more interested in the job than Jeff Lurie is interested in Chucky.

Philadelphia has a plan to cut its prison population by one-third, or about 2,500 inmates, over three years. But it will cost money. A proposal was submitted Wednesday to the MacArthur Foundation, seeking $2 million in grants and pledging $2 million in new and existing city money to drive its prison number down. Philadelphia's proposal focuses on decreased reliance on cash bail, and enhanced diversion programs and mental-health supports for defendants awaiting trial on criminal charges. Currently, 75 percent of Philadelphia inmates are awaiting trial.
