Three women are dead after a fiery crash in Northeast Philadelphia early Sunday morning. The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. on the 8100 block of Torresdale Avenue near Rhawn Street in the city's Holmesburg section. The women were traveling northbound in a black Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, crossed into oncoming travel, and slammed into a parked, unoccupied tractor-trailer. The vehicles burst into flames. Witnesses attempted to resue the women but were unable to get inside because of the fire. Responding officers and firefighters also attempted to rescue the occupants but were thwarted by the flames. Hazmat crews worked to contain the fuel and herbicide spills from the tractor-trailer. Police are investigating what factor speed had in the crash. Residents pointed to the unoccupied tractor-trailers that are parked along the residential street. They call them an ongoing hazard for decades. Two of the women have been identified as 25-year-old Amonie Hill and 22-year-old Gia Abgarian of Northeast Philadelphia.

Two Philadelphia police officers were injured in a car crash in Southwest Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon. It happened at 2:21 pm at 53rd Street and Springfield Avenue in the Kingsessing neighborhood. The officers were responding to a priority call at the time of the accident. They were taken to Presbyterian Medical Center where they were treated and expected to be released. The cause of the accident was not released.

A Boy Scout leader in North Jersey was attacked by a bear while exploring a cave on Sunday and three scouts saved his life. 50-year-old Christopher Petronino was showing a cave to his three scouts at the Split Rock Reservoir in Rockaway, Morris County. When he approached the entrance, a black bear grabbed him by the leg and pulled him inside. The bear bit him on the shoulders and legs. Petronino hit the bear on the head with a hammer, curled up into a fetal position, and shouted to the boys. The scouts had not followed their leader into cave. They called 911 on his cell phone to report the attack but could not give their exact location. They then used snacks like bananas and trail mix to try and draw the bear out of the cave. The scouts, one of whom was Petronino's son, then lit a fire near the cave's entrance and were able to smoke the bear out and their dog scared it away. The scout leader was then able to escape. Emergency responders and police helicopter located them from the GPS of the cellphone and the smoke from the signal fire. Petronino was flown to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. This cave was well-known to the leader and he never encountered a bear there before.
