Nutter Says Ban Trump From Philly; Kane's Aide Convicted; Vick Lobbies For Pets in Cars Bill

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said he would ban Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from the city if he had the power to do so. This comes in response to Trump's latest proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country. Nutter spoke at a press conference this afternoon at city hall with various city religious leaders to condemn anti-Muslim activities after a severed pig's head was thrown at the Al Aqsa Islamic Society mosque on Germantown Ave Sunday night. He said Trump's rhetoric is playing right into ISIS' playbook, making the US appear anti-Muslim and fearful.

The US House of Representatives passed a bill today (407 to 19) overhaul the federal visa waiver program. Anyone from Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Sudan, or those who have travelled to those in the past 5 years would be barred from traveling to the United States without a visa.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane's top aide had been convicted of criminal contempt for breaking a protective order and interfering with a grand jury investigation. Patrick Reese was Kane's driver and right hand man. Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter found him guilty today of snooping through e-mails on the Attorney General's office servers to obtain information about a grand jury case. He faces 6 months in jail. In other PA scandal news, Supreme Court Justice Michael Eakin has been charged by a Pennsylvania ethics board with four counts for violating codes of conduct related to exchanging inappropriate e-mails.

Former Philadelphia Eagles QB (currently Pittsburgh Steelers) Michael Vick was in Harrisburg today at a rally to help lobby a bill aimed at protecting pets left in hot cars. The bill would allow first responders to break into cars without fear of being held liable for damages. It would also be a summary offense for owners to leave pets inside a hot car with the windows closed. Vick pled guilty in 2007 of organizing dog fights and spent 21 months in federal prison. He has worked with several animal rights organizations since his release in 2009. The bill is in committee.
