The Philadelphia Zoo has announced the names of its two new red panda cubs today. The cubs were born at the zoo on June 26th and debuted to the public in November. They asked the public's help in naming the cubs. The zoo received thousands of suggestions and then compiled a list open to a vote. Officials say they received 40,000 total votes and that Benjamin and Betsy ran away with the win receiving 17,000. Of course they are named after Betsy Ross and Benjamin Franklin, two important figures in our city's and country's history.

A South Jersey man is dead after crashing his car into a toll plaza on the Atlantic City Expressway this morning. It happened around 10:30 a.m. 39-year-old Joseph Crawford was driving westbound through the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza in Hamilton Township when his car hit the toll booth and flipped over. The vehicle burst into flames and trapped him inside. The fire spread to two toll booths before fire crews could dose the flames. No toll workers were injured. Traffic was diverted through the EZ-Pass lanes, but has since reopened fully. Crawford works as a card dealer at Parx Casino in Bensalem. No word on why he lost control.

A homeless veteran who was beaten outside of a gas station in the Olney section of Philadelphia nearly eight months ago has died from his injuries. The attack on April 7th outside a Sunoco station at 5th Street and Somerville Avenue was caught on video. It left 51-year-old Robert Barnes in a coma. The video showed a group jump from a mini-van armed with a hammer, a piece of wood, and mace and proceed to punch, stomp, and kick the man. A juvenile falsely accused Barnes of hitting him prompting the attack. Three juveniles have already plead guilty to charges. Three adults rejected deals and await trial in January. Charges are expected to be upgraded to murder following Barnes' death.
