The mastermind of the Paris attacks has been killed. That's the word from the city prosecutor's office. He was killed in a police raid on a suburban apartment building. 27-year-old Abdelhamid Abaaoud was identified based on skin samples. Thousands of shots were fired in the apartment building targeted in the chaotic and bloody raid in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis on Wednesday. Police launched the operation after receiving information from tapped phone calls, surveillance and tipoffs suggesting that Abaaoud was holed up there. Killed along with Abaaoud was a woman, identified as his cousin, who blew herself up with an explosives vest at the beginning of the raid. Eight people were arrested.

A Philadelphia Common Pleas Court jury has awarded $10.1 million to a mother and her son, whose physicians at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia failed to timely diagnose his bacterial meningitis following several trips to the emergency room. Shamir Tillery, now 6, suffers from hearing loss, language disorder, developmental and learning delays, and a loss of balance. He was 11 months old when he came down with meningitis. The $10.1 million verdict rendered Monday includes $1.5 million for future medical care, $1.1 million for loss of earnings, and $7.5 million for pain and suffering.

The Chester County Sheriff’s office is reporting a significant spike in applications for gun permits since the terrorist attacks in Paris. According to Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh, the bump has everything to do with last week's terror attacks across Paris. She says, "People are frightened and more aware of self-defense." Sheriffs in both Chester County and Bucks County report that applications for gun permits have doubled on a daily basis since Friday.
