In what many are calling the "Ferguson Effect," violent crime is on the rise in many larger cities across the US. The FBI, DEA and government leaders suspect that police departments are pulling back from proactive policing thanks to the backlash from the 2014 incident where a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says it's not happening in the Garden State. He tells police to go out and do their job.

A team of Penn researchers has an idea to reduce the risk of heart attacks. They suggest paying the patients to take their medication. And give their physicians a bonus as well. Statins are proven to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, yet as many as half of patients with prescriptions eventually stop taking the pills. In the Penn study of 1,503 patients, the most effective approach was to reward both patient and physician.

The World Series of Poker Main Event underway in Las Vegas is being dominated by a player from Montgomery County. 24-year-old Joe McKeehan of North Wales held 57 percent of the chips after the first day of competition. The field is down to six as the competition continues today. The grand prize is $7.6 million. 25-year-old Joshua Beckley of Marlton, New Jersey and 23-year-old Tom Cannuli of Cape May are also at the final table.
