Lehigh Valley Philadelphia Rail Route; Chestnut St Bridge Cracked; Planned Parenthood Change

A resurrected rail route between Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley is among the possibilities being considered in a two-year study looking at transportation options for the rapidly growing region. The MoveLV: Long Range Transportation Plan will look for the best transportation options for the Allentown-Easton-Bethlehem region. Surveys conducted suggest demand for a major rail project. If rail is determined a viable option, it would be a decade or two before trains start running again.

The Chestnut Street Bridge near Penn's Landing was closed Wednesday night because of a crack in a support pier. Repair work is starting today according to a spokesman with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The Chestnut Street Bridge crosses I-95 and the crack is on a support pier in a parking area below. Traffic is being detoured north and south on Front Street until the repair work is completed.

Planned Parenthood officials announced that the organization will no longer accept financial reimbursement for fetal tissue donation. When it came to light this summer that money was changing hands, it sparked an instant controversy. Dayle Steinberg, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania agrees with the change but adds none of the offices in Pennsylvania take part in fetal tissue donation. She doesn’t expect the change to have much impact here, as the controversy hasn’t impacted the number of people seeking services.
