A former America's Junior Miss from New Jersey died after being found unconscious in a doorway in New York. Kiersten Cerveny, who grew up in Gloucester County, was found unconscious Sunday in the doorway of a New York City apartment building. She was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 38 year old mother of three was a dermatologist and lived on Long Island. Toxicology and autopsy reports are pending.

Two Philadelphia Police officer were injured after their police SUV crashed into a tree in Southwest Philadelphia. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Bartram Avenue and Holstein Avenue near Essington. The officers somehow lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. A male officer was driving and suffered neck and back injuries. A female officer riding in the passenger’s seat suffered a broken leg. It is unclear whether they were responding to a call.

At the Jersey shore, damage assessment continued in the wake of the weekend nor’easter. Many beaches lost hundreds of feet of sand, some of which had been replenished just months ago. Winds gusting up to 55 miles per hour chewed away at the dunes, but the damage to property was minimal. This storm was no Sandy and most feel the dunes did their job. Several shore towns will now apply for more beach replenishment which will likely happen in the Spring.
