Bruce Springsteen's third album Born to Run is celebrating the 40th anniversary of it's release this week. 25-year-old Springsteen along with the E-Street Band spent over a year crafting what became a critical and commercial success but before they released it felt like it was do-or-die time to break into the mainstream. Springsteen's first two records, Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle had a singer-songwriter style that garnered comparisons to Bob Dylan, but Born To Run catapulted them into onto the rock stage. Much of the time in the studio was spent on this new sonic direction. Springsteen wanted to emulate Phil Spector‘s "Wall of Sound" style and took inspiration from Roy Orbison. The title track “Born To Run” was released to radio months ahead of the album and helped build anticipation for the release. It peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and has sold over 9 million albums to date.

Last week Carrie Underwood released the first single “Smoke Break” from her upcoming fifth album Storytellers. Now she's added a hot video to go along. The song itself is an ode to all hard working people who sometimes need to take a break. Lyrically she qualifies herself by saying she doesn't drink or smoke. Technically, the song title could be called a dysphemism. Your 'smoke break' could be anything, it doesn't need to involve smoking. In the video, she drives and old Ford pickup, gets broken down, walks slowly through the dusty desert, and ends up and her gig on time all while looking perfect. The video also highlights a series of hard working folk who deserve a breather. Watch the clip below:
