Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter held a press conference this afternoon to announce more plans surrounding the Papal visit next month. Last week they revealed a 'traffic box' where vehicle traffic will be allowed to leave but not enter. This is to "protect millions of people walking on narrow city streets and sidewalks." Today they revealed two more levels of secure zones. There will be a 'Secure Vehicle Perimeter' around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Independence Hall areas where no traffic will be allowed and cars will have to be removed. (Black Line on Map). Inside those areas will be a fenced in 'Security Perimeter' that will have access points. (Red Line on Map). People will have to go through screenings and magnetometers to enter those zones. Independence Hall and the area close to the Art Museum will also require tickets to get into the Security Perimeter. Nutter acknowledged that all 1.5 million people will not fit inside the perimeter on the Parkway. A list of what you can and can't bring inside will be available at a later date.

A North Carolina man has pled guilty to bringing millions of dollars of counterfeit chips to an Atlantic City casino and then flushing them down a toilet. 43-year-old Christian Lusardi of Fayetteville, North Carolina, came to participate in the Borgata’s “Winter Poker Open,” which started on January 14, 2014. Fearing his scheme would be uncovered, he began flushing the chips down the toilet in his room at Harah’s Casino Hotel. That just clogged the pipe and he was caught. The chips had a face value of $2.6 million. He plead guilty to trademark counterfeiting and criminal mischief. He will spend five years in prison. Lusardi also has to pay Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa $463,540 for lost revenue when it canceled the tournament and Harrah's Casino Hotel $9,455 in plumbing costs.

The Office of Transportation and Utilities completed a semiannual 2-day sweep in Center City and West Philadelphia removing abandoned bikes from the streets. This cleanup collected 73 bike frames. Armed with power tools, workers removed locked bikes from poles and fences to clear up space and parking. The office tagged over 140 bikes two weeks ago with notices to the owners that the bikes will be removed if they don't take them. The effort is part of the citywide cleanup ahead of the Pope's visit next month. The bikes are given to a local charity, Neighborhood Bike Works, that will rehab them and donate them to children.

Tonight,
Clear Skies, temperatures in the 70's this evening in Center City
