Debate Cancelled; Wolf Makes Progress on Budget; Boy Shoots Himself with Found Gun

A plan for a televised debate on NBC10 between Democratic mayoral candidate Jim Kenney and Republican Melissa Murray Bailey has been cancelled because of "unreasonable demands" from the Kenney campaign, according to the television station's vice president of news. The campaign had submitted a six-page "memorandum of understanding" to the station, containing more than 60 prerequisites for the debate. The disagreement between the TV station and candidates was primarily over the dictation of camerawork, the use of cut-away "reaction" shots and the use of split screen shots.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Republican legislators met for an hour yesterday and made progress toward compromise on some key sticking points in the state’s budget now six weeks overdue. Republican House Speaker Mike Turzai was careful to temper expectations, but said the talks marked the first time he had seen some movement by Wolf acknowledging Republican perspective on pension reform and privatization of the state liquor store system. Wolf too, confirmed progress and they are meeting again today.

An 8-year-old boy was hospitalized after reportedly shooting himself in the foot with a gun he found in a playground Wednesday afternoon in the city's East Germantown section. The boy reportedly found the gun in a bag and accidentally shot himself. However no gun or witnesses were found after the child was admitted to Einstein Medical Center for treatment. The family told police that the boy was in the area of the rec center in the 1100 block of East Chelten Avenue with friends and family members when he discovered the bag and gun.
