Man Who Went on 2-hour Chase Had Stolen Underwear; NJ Troopers Will Wear Body Cameras

The man who led authorities on a wild 2-hour chase between two states last night was wanted after stealing underwear. 54-year-old Robert F. Ritter of Blackwood, NJ is accused of stealing a pack of boxers and a pack of tank tops from the ShopRite in Brooklawn back on July 9th. The store's security guard wrote down the license plate as he drove away. Last night, police in Oaklyn, Camden County, ran his plates after pulling him over and discovered the warrants. Ritter took off driving and headed over the Walt Whitman Bridge into Philly. He went back over the bridge into Camden and then over the Ben Franklin back to Philadelphia. Eventually PA state police performed a pit maneuver and flipped his van near the airport. He will be charged with three counts of aggravated assault and related charges. Ritter will be extradited to New Jersey on the robbery charges.

All New Jersey State Troopers out on the road will be equipped with body cameras. The state will be spending $1.5 million on the state police budget to outfit 1,000 troopers over the next nine months. The state will also make $2.5 million in forfeiture funds available to local departments to purchase camera packages. Each package costs $500. Use of police body cameras provides accountability and transparency and “will act as an objective witness in police-involved shootings and other use-of-force incidents.”

Tonight,
Mostly Clear, chance of a shower, warm, temperatures in the mid 80s this evening in Center City.
