ATM Bomb; SWAT Officer Shot Serving Warrant; Discussions About Closing Ben Franklin Bridge

Police are gathering evidence after two people used a bomb to blow up an ATM in Hunting Park. Surveillance video shows two people approach the machine at 6th and Luzerne streets and then running away. Seconds later the machine exploded sending pieces of it flying 100 feet away. Fortunately, no one was injured and police report that no money was missing from the device.

A Philadelphia Police Officer was injured and the suspect is dead. SWAT officers were attempting to serve a murder warrant on Devon Guisherd in the murder of Megan Doto when the suspect began firing at officers who returned fire. Both were transported to the hospital where Guisherd died. The officer who was wearing a bullet proof vest is recovering. Guisherd is suspected of firing the errant shot that killed Doto and her unborn baby in September 2014.

The Secret Service and other agencies are considering closing the Ben Franklin Bridge to vehicular traffic during the Pope’s visit in September. According to the Delaware River Port Authority, closing the bridge is not in the plan now but is being discussed and the possibility of the bridge being open only to pedestrians, so more people can cross from Camden into Philadelphia on foot when Francis visits Sept. 26 and 27.
