Cosby: Sex Was Consensual; Fencing Plan for Pope Security; Literacy Plan Gets Big Donation

Bill Cosby testified during a 2005 lawsuit deposition that he gave a 19 year old Quaaludes then had consensual sex with her. The 77 year old actor and comedian said at that time he acquired powerful sedatives to give to women he wanted to have sex with. Now outside the statute of limitations, attorneys for Cosby's more recent accusers are demanding apologies from Cosby for calling alleged victims "liars."

When the Pope visits Philadelphia this Fall, portions of Center City may be surrounded by 8 foot security fences. The U.S. Secret Service is working with organizers and say nothing is definite and logistics are changing daily three months out from Pope Francis’s visit during the World Meeting of Families. Safety plans amid estimated crowds of 1.5 million are beginning to fall into place.

Thanks in part to a $10.5 million donation from the William Penn and Lenfest foundations, the Philadelphia School District will push forward with its plan to spend $30 million on literacy and their push to get all kids reading on grade-level by fourth grade. The money will be spent on teacher training, literacy coaches, and in-classroom libraries impacting about 48,000 students.

Sports
The Phillies are in Los Angeles again tonight with the Dodgers.

Philadelphia Weather
Isolated thunderstorms today. 90 in Center City.
