Because of extreme heat today, Philadelphia public schools close at noon. Most city schools do not have air conditioning. Schools with graduation ceremonies planned for today have the option of remaining open for the ceremonies. Call individual schools to confirm graduation schedules.

Detectives in Southwest Philadelphia are looking to identify and locate a suspect involved in a pattern of vehicle thefts in West and Southwest Philadelphia. Police say eight taxi cabs have been stolen between June 7th, and June 15th. All of the cabs bear the logo "215 Get A Cab" and have been stolen in a number of areas of the southern and western part of the city. Police have described the lone suspect as a black male with a thin build and a beard. Anyone with information about these incidents or the suspect is urged to contact police. To submit a tip via telephone, dial 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847. All tips will be confidential.

After three hours of deliberation yesterday, an all-white jury decided that former Fox 29 anchor Tom Burlington had not been fired for racial reasons. Burlington was terminated on July 12, 2007, after using the N-word during a June 23, 2007, staff meeting about the Philadelphia Council of the NAACP's symbolic burial of the infamous epithet.
