Amtrak Service Resumes; NTSB Says Bullet Not Likely; Home Sale Price Down Slightly

Amtrak resumed full Northeast Corridor operations this morning after being suspended since the May 12th derailment. Infrastructure repairs have been made in compliance with Federal Railroad Administration directives. Starting with departures from Philadelphia at 5:53 a.m. and New York City at 5:30 a.m., all Amtrak Acela Express, Northeast Regional and other services resumed.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the engineer of Amtrak Train 188 did not radio his dispatchers that his train had been hit by a projectile just before it derailed at the Frankford curve in Port Richmond. NTSB's Robert Sumwalt, the lead investigator of the fatal derailment, said he did not think a bullet penetrated the windshield. The break pattern on the windshield was more likely caused by something the size of a grapefruit.

More home sales but lower prices is the report on the suburban real estate market in first quarter of 2015 as the market recovers from the housing downturn. According to a Berkshire Hathaway analysis, the typical suburban house sold fell in value by 1.8 percent in the first quarter compared with the fourth quarter.
