Temple Hit-And-Run Update: Driver Turns Self In, Car Recovered, Rachel Hall Still Critical

An 18-year-old driver has turned himself into police and admitted to striking a 22-year-old female Temple student and then leaving the scene on Wednesday night. The driver, who only has a learner's permit, came forward Thursday morning and told police her was 'scared' and 'panicked' because he does not have a full driver's license. He has not yet been identified or charged but authorities expect to do so soon.

The accident happened Wednesday evening after 7pm at the intersection of Park Ave. and Diamond Street. 22-year-old Rachel Hall from Mulica Hill, NJ, was riding her mountain bike home from dinner to study for finals when she was struck by a silver Mitsubishi Galant and thrown from her bicycle. She landed on the street and suffered a broken leg, head injuries, and was knocked unconscious. The car stopped initially but witnesses say passengers in the car encouraged the driver to flee. The entire incident was caught on surveillance video. Authorities recovered the car early Thursday morning.

Rachel Hall was taken to Temple University Hospital where she remains in critical condition. Hall is a senior majoring in Criminal Justice; she is expected to graduate next week. Hall hopes to become a police officer herself, perhaps one day work at the FBI. She is also the goal keeper for Temple Woman's lacrosse team.

Working hard everyday to achieve my dream of working here at the DC office
