A freshman St. Joseph's Prep football player collapsed Saturday morning during spring workouts and died. 15-year-old Ryan Gillyard from Upper Darby was at the school's practice field at Cecil B. Moore Avenue and 11th Street when he suddenly collapsed shortly after warmups. He was taken by ambulance to Temple University Hospital where he died. At this point no cause of death has been determined or released. Gillyard played linebacker and running back for the Hawks freshman team this past fall. He also played basketball for St. Denis Catholic School in Havertown. Gillyard played football and basketball for St. Denis while in grade school. School spokesman Bill Avington says that counselors will be available all weekend and on Monday.

Gillyard's final tweet anticipating morning workout.

"The St. Joseph’s Prep community is deeply saddened by the tragic death of our freshman Ryan Gillyard and our condolences go out to his parents and family," said Avington. "Ryan was a great person and someone we were proud to have as part of our community. We will do whatever we can to support his family and friends, especially the members of the freshman class and the football team of which he was a member, and our thoughts and prayers are with them all."

The Philadelphia International Records building at Broad and Spruce started coming down today, making way for a 47-story luxury hotel-condo building. Also home to legendary Sigma Sound Studios, the birthplace of the “Philadelphia Sound” created by legendary producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff birthed the careers of music icons such as Chubby Checker, Patti Labelle, Hall and Oates, Teddy Pendergrass, The O'Jays, The Delphonics, and many more. Chuck Gamble, PIR executive vice president, was on hand to watch. He said, “The music doesn't die, of course.” He is right. The Sound of Philadelphia continues to be heard worldwide everyday on radio, tv, and movies and influences R&B artists to this day. A building is made of bricks, but music lives in your soul.
