Two Teen Boys Charged in Overbrook Murder; No Charges Against Officers in Tate-Brown Case

Philadelphia Police have charged two 15-year-old boys in the murder of 51-year-old James Stuhlman last week in Overbrook. Brandon Smith is under arrest while Tyfine Hamilton is being sought. Hamilton is believed to be the shooter. They are charged with murder, robbery, and related offenses. A third 14-year-old boy is expected to be arrested on lesser charges. It happened around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday on the 6400 block of Woodcrest Avenue. Stuhlman was walking his dog when he was approached by the three teenagers. They attempted to rob him but shot him once in the chest before running off. The two older teens are being charged as adults.

The Philadelphia District Attorney said today that no charges will be filed against a Philadelphia police officer that used deadly force in a confrontation with a man back in December. 26-year-old Brandon Tate-Brown was shot once in the head after being pulled over by Philadelphia Police at 2:45 a.m. on December 15th for driving without headlights in the city's Mayfair section. DA Seth Williams says that the evidence, including video and eye witness testimony, corroborates the officer's story that Tate-Brown was reaching for a gun inside his car when they shot him. "The facts show a tragedy, a terrible tragedy, but not a crime," Williams said at a news conference. Tate-Brown's mother plans to move forward with her civil lawsuit against the City of Philadelphia that excessive force was used.
