An 8-inch water main broke shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday morning forcing residents of a dozen homes to leave their houses. It happened on the 3000 block of Tulip Street in Port Richmond. In addition, around 100 homes lost water service for hours. Several homes had to have their basements pumped out by the Philadelphia Water Department. The Red Cross was on hand to assist anyone who was displaced with food, clothing and shelter. A SEPTA bus relocated approximately 30 people who were forced to leave. Crews were able to restore water by early evening.

Two dozen people were left out in the cold early Saturday morning when fire ripped through an apartment complex in Camden County, New Jersey. The fire broke out around 3 a.m. Saturday in building 2700 of the Emerald Ridge Apartments on the 100 block of Gibbsboro Road in Lindenwold. Firefighters found flames shooting through the roof. The extreme cold and winds made fighting the fire difficult but crew brought it under control. Four units were damaged and no one was injured. Fire alarms inside the building were functioning properly. No word yet on what caused the blaze.
